This is a short introductory video showing how I set up QCAD for drawing out the artwork for a small etching job.

I’d just bought a JLTRT Midland 3F – looking at the etches for the tender there was obviously something not quite right. The oval etches in the side frames were in the wrong place so I thought it would be a good exercise to learn how to draw out some artwork in order to get some replacement etches made.

I then posted my results on the forum Western Thunder and started to get questions about the drawing package QCAD and how to use it – hence this video.

The reason I went for QCAD is that it was a polished package available for Apple OS X, it had a command line interface to make it easy to type in known dimensions and it was free!
