Slide Bars

In building the Ivatt 2 I came across the problem of attaching the slide bars to the motion bracket. I wanted some way for the slide bars had to be easily separated from the motion bracket rather than soldering the slide-bars to the motion bracket.

This was my solution - dove tail joints.

The slide bars are made using mild steel to give them the right colour. The last 1/16" has a small bevel filed at the end. Beveled edge at the end of the slide bar

For the motion bracket I then got a small length of steel bar and filed it to a H section. The top section of the H was then carefully cut back using a triangular needle file so that it would fit the bevel on the slide bars. H section on the motion bracket

The H section was placed on the slide bars with the cross head fitted to ensure the correct spacing. The H section was then carefully sweated to the motion bracket. H section sweated to the motion bracket

The finished result - no screws, no soldering yet easy to separate.
